Your Immediate Input Needed Now on Medicare Bill
The Medicare bill we expect to see this week will contain a "doc fix" but Senate leaders remain mum on what else the bill will contain and how any of these measures will be financed. As the nursing home and home health updates remain on the table for use in covering the costs of this Medicare bill, we ask members to contact their senators this week and urge them to protect the scheduled 2009 Medicare update. Contact: Marsha Greenfield, (202) 508-9488.

arrow Economic Stimulus Payments Still Available for Residents
Let your residents and clients know that although the regular tax-filing season is over, they have until Oct. 15 to file tax returns needed to claim this year's economic stimulus rebate if they have yet to do so. The rebate will not count against their eligibility for Medicaid, Supplemental Security Income or Section 202 housing assistance unless they keep it longer than 60 days. Use these materials to promote the payments in your organization. Contact: Barbara Gay, (202) 508-9489. Read More

arrow Unwind the Red Tape for Resident TV Converter Boxes
Residents with analog TVs, not cable or satellite service, qualify for coupons to help pay for converter boxes they must buy to receive digital broadcasts after Feb. 17, 2009, when all television broadcasting will change to digital. The National Telecommunications and Information Administration (NTIA) is proposing a special, excessively burdensome application process for nursing home residents to obtain the coupons. Specifically, if nursing home administrators apply on behalf of a resident, they will have to include a copy of the facility's operating license with each application. Email the NTIA by June 9 and urge them to eliminate these requirements. Contact: Steve Maag, (202) 508-9498.  Read More
