Vision
For the first time in its history, AAHSA developed an initiative to attract and develop new leaders for the future of aging-services field. At the present time, enrollment in graduate education programs for long-term care is at the lowest level in a decade. The number of people willing to provide one year adequately paid fellowships is alarmingly low.
The initiative's concept is to create a larger, higher-quality pool of applicants for the universities affiliated with the New Leaders Task Force. These universities can then estbalish a more selective admissions process for their long-term care administration programs.
The New Leaders Task Force will also obtain support from the entire AAHSA membership by encouraging members to refer potential leaders to the affiliate universities and offering fellowship opportunities in their organizations. These fellowships should be outstanding experiences that draw more highly qualified people into the field.
To increase AAHSA-member referrals to the affiliate universities and to generate the members' interest in providing fellowships, the New Leaders Task Force will include regular news in AAHSA This Week and AAHSA's FutureAge magazine.
Charge
To attract new, dynamic potential leaders into the aging-services field to create the nation's next generation of leaders.
