Nursing Facilities Join Indiana Network

An organization operating 300 skilled nursing and assisted living facilities in 21 states plans to link three of its Indianapolis facilities with the Indiana Network for Patient Care, a service of the Indiana Health Information Exchange. Golden Living, which is based in Fort Smith, Ark., plans to link 20 other Indiana facilities to the network at a later date.
Indiana, Mississippi andPennsylvania Expand HIEs

Three states are expanding their ability to share electronic health records (EHR) through health information exchanges (HIE). Pennsylvania announced recently that it is looking for a contractor to build its statewide HIE. The Mississippi Coastal Health Information Exchange is launching a new development phase that will expand services to four additional health systems, launch a community outreach training program and integrate with additional EHR vendors. Finally, 62 of 114 medical facilities in Indiana have signed contracts to exchange information through the Indiana Health Information Exchange.
Indiana: State Probably Won't Mandate Tracking for People with Dementia

Indiana's Health Finance Commission has several months before it needs to decide whether the state should mandate that adults with dementia or other illnesses wear a tracking device so they can be more easily located if they become lost. But after hearing testimony about voluntary tracking programs that operate in other parts of the country, the commission's chairperson said that legislators are unlikely to authorize mandatory tracking. The question came up last year when a bill authorizing a statewide Silver Alert system called for a study of mandatory electronic monitoring of some adults.
Indiana and Ohio: HIEs Form First Multi-Region IHE

Officials from three health information exchanges (HIE) - HealthBridge in Cincinnati, Ohio, the Indiana Health Information Exchange in Indianapolis, Ind., and HealthLINC in Bloomington, Ind. - have formed the nation's first live, multi-region health information exchange (HIE). The organizations collectively serve more than 15,000 physician and 50 hospitals, and have more than 12 million patient records.
