“Duncaster the Musical” debuted this summer to a standing-room-only crowd at Duncaster Retirement Community in Bloomfield, Conn. Written and produced by Director of Resident Services Janet Lamenzo as part of a year-long celebration of the retirement community’s 25th anniversary, the production featured bathing beauty chorines, dancing bears, a kitchen gadget band and more. Cast and crew included residents and staff who sang and danced to custom lyrics set to familiar show tunes. Delighted audience members howled with laughter and recognition.

Narrated by CEO Michael O’Brien and resident Lynn O’Brien (no relation), the show traced Mrs. O’Brien’s life at Duncaster while recognizing staff and residents—and even Caleb, Duncaster’s canine mascot—for their unique styles and contributions to daily life.

Duncaster had kicked off its celebration by inviting the town to a parade in May, the month of its founding. Throughout the anniversary year, the community is celebrating with such events as proclamation readings, a gala dinner, a cabaret, the aforementioned musical, fireworks, a picnic and a golf tournament.
